WordPress 4.3

WordPress 4.3 “Billie” has just been released. The new features will help you secure your site, as well as make it even easier to customize and set up your site.

From the customizer you can now:

  • Edit your menu’s, making it even easier to create or update menu’s and assign them, all while viewing a live preview of your site.
  • Add a unique site icon to your website. This is the image that will represent your site in tabs, bookmarks and icons of mobile devices. The icon are also theme independent, so if you change themes your icon will still remain.

The streamlined customizer design provides a mobile-friendly and accessible interface. With every release, it becomes easier and faster to make your site just the way you want it. – WordPress

Setting and resetting passwords has been improved. When creating a new user you will be given a generated strong password that you can change.

WordPress will no longer send passwords via email and the password reset links will expire in 24 hours. Finally, e-mail notifications will be sent out in the event that an e-mail or password is changed.- WordPress

This is great news, as sending emails containing passwords is not a very good idea

Comments are now turned off by default on pages and custom posts, which means you won’t have to disable the comments yourself with every new site or new page.

There are new shortcuts to simplify your time in the Editor:

  • Use * or – to start an unordered list.
  • Use 1. or 1) to start an ordered list.
  • Use # for H1 and ## for H2, etc.
  • Use > to transform text into blockquote.

You can download WordPress 4.3 here or update through your Dashboard. Automatic updates have already begun rolling out if you have them enabled for major releases.
